Welcome to this module on nutrition and hydration in care of the critically ill patient. Thank you for choosing to join me here.

Please note that whilst the following module has been commissioned and produced in times of heightened demand for critical care resources owing the pandemic of COVID-19, this module only introduces principles of nutrition, fluid and electrolyte management. Clinical experience in critical care areas is crucial to your knowledge and skills development. The module (webinar and accompanying materials) has been developed by Claire Sutton at the University of Bradford in conjunction with Health Education England.

The module aims to provide a brief introduction to the following topics:

Safe enteral feeding
Fluid replacement
Urine output/maintenance of fluid balance
Basic biochemistry.

The webinar is expected to last two hours with some time for questions throughout.
